Potable Water in the "Costco" Building

Published on September 25, 2025

Here are a few important points to highlight:

  • Pest-proof cabinets have been installed. Users must ensure they are closed after each use.
  • Operator safety: There's an ongoing concern about operators driving off with hoses still connected, which could damage the piping. Since a potable-rated breakaway fitting wasn't available, we've reinforced the piping to help mitigate this risk. Operators must disconnect hoses after filling.
  • Water quality testing is underway at both the source and point of use. Airlines remain responsible for conducting their own testing in accordance with IATA guidelines.
  • Sanitation protocols must be followed: no littering, and lavatory vehicles must not be parked within 30 meters of the fill stations.
  • Swipe card access: Each airline will receive swipe cards to activate the solenoid valve and dispense water. This system also enables billing tracking. We’re happy to offer train-the-trainer sessions if needed.
  • Hose connections are standard ¾" garden hose fittings. Airlines must supply their own hoses, which must be disconnected, stored properly, and not left in the area. Cabinets must be closed after use.
  • Cold weather precautions: During winter, the large overhead doors must not be propped open. If a door fails, please report it to the AOC immediately. In the event of a freeze risk, we’ll need to drain the system, which will temporarily suspend fill station operations until repairs are completed.
  • Backflow Devices: Cross-connection control devices are installed for each station, and we will maintain the testing and service of these devices.
